Homemade salute to the U.S. military

Wally Olds, a proud Navy veteran, wanted to pay tribute to branches of the service. He got an idea and, with his band saw, drew and cut out and painted life-size servicemen of the Navy (of course), Marines and Army. He then displayed them on the side of his garage and set them to salute the American flag in his yard. There are five generations of servicemen in the Olds family and Wally started the annual Memorial Day veterans luncheon held at the Cohasset Community Center. While driving by Wally’s cutouts one day, Itasca County Veterans Services Officer Luke St. Germain left a note on the Olds’ door thanking him for the “nice patriotic display.”
