June 28, 2009-Collegiate sports hung in the air at Eagle Ridge Golf Course as Minnesota Gopher fans of all ages attended the annual North Country Iron Range Golden Gopher Fund Scholarship Fundraiser in Coleraine.
June 28, 2009-The Grand Rapids VFW baseball team split a doubleheader with Bemidji. Bemidji won the first game 3-1 as Matt How was the tough-luck loser on the mound. Rapids won the second game 7-2 as David Liebe led the way.
June 28, 2009-The Grand Rapids Indians amateur baseball team beat Bemidji 3-0. James Brubaker pitched the first eight innings to get the win and Gabe Wood earned the save. Brubaker also had two hits and two RBIs.
July 1, 2009-Despite several defensive miscues, the Rapids Legion baseball team pulled off an 8-3 victory over Cloquet. John Skrbec was tough on the mound despite Grand Rapids making a staggering 13 errors in the contest.
July 1, 2009-Feature winners in Grand Rapids were Andy Davey, Jeff Provinzino, Brad Hanson and Dan Wilson.

June 26, 1994-Marble nipped Nashwauk 5-4 in Legion baseball as R.J. Herdman had three hits and three RBIs. Kris McNamar was winning pitcher. Mike DeNucci had two hits for Nashwauk. Meanwhile, Hibbing beat Deer River 16-6 as Sean Riley and Eric Moberg each had three hits.
June 26, 1994-Sue Kannas of Grand Rapids was named to the Region 7AA Softball Team.
June 26, 1994-Two Grand Rapids High School graduates, Dan Winkler and Jamie Gilbert, have been named to the All-State team as members of the Itasca Community College baseball team.
June 29, 1994-The Grand Rapids Legion baseball team took second in its own Grand Rapids Tournament. Westphal, of Robbinsdale Armstrong, beat Rapids 8-5 to win the title.
June 29, 1994-John Guenther, a 20-year DNR employee, has been appointed DNR regional administrator for Region 2 which includes much of north-central and northeastern Minnesota.

June 26, 1969-Don Roseen of Duluth turned on his 302 Chevie powered modified for 18.01 seconds at the Grand Rapids Speedway, blowing Harry Johnson’s two-year-old mark 18.18 mark off the track record books and establishing himself as the new speed merchant on the quarter mile track here.
June 30, 1969-Balsam edged Bigfork 15-14 in Chippewa Forest League baseball action. Highlight of the game was a tremendous home run by Leigh Senogles of Balsam, a 400-foot line drive.
June 30, 1969-Low scores in the Pokegama Men’s Golf League were K. Matyas and B. Shaw with rounds of 36.
June 30, 1969-Sue Barle of Coleraine rallied brilliantly on the back nine to win the Women’s Invitational Golf Tournament at Mesaba Country Club in Hibbing.
