The Taconite American Legion baseball team hosted the Northeast American Legion Sub-State Tournament last weekend in Marble. And the team made an impressive finish, playing against Wadena in the championship game Sunday.
After falling to Pierz, 10-0 in their first game on Friday, the Taconite team came back to beat Viriginia 6-4 later in the day.
In the game against Viriginia, Ty Donahue pitched the complete game and was the winning pitcher. Taconite scored four runs in the fifth inning to erase a 3-0 deficit and added two more runs in the 7th.
On Saturday, Taconite eliminated Ely, 11-1. Ryan Olson was the winning Pitcher allowing just one hit in 4.1 innings. Olson also had three hits.
In Sunday’s championship game, Wadena scored two runs in the first, third and sixth innings. The game would end 6-0 with Wadena winning their second consecutive sub-state championship. Bailey Thorson was the losing pitcher for Taconite.
