This is written by John Savich in regards to naming the practice football field in Grand Rapids after Tom Drazenovich. Savich writes: “Thank you Coach D. I just wanted to reach out and say hello to my teammates and head coach Tom Drazenovich on the 40th anniversary of our remarkable 8-1 1979 Grand Rapids Indians football season. What great memories I have and life lessons I learned being a part of that team. Last time I saw Coach D we talked about the Denfeld game we played Aug. 31, 1979, a 6-3 loss. Then we went on and won them all. Being a part of that great football team remains one of the proudest and happiest memories of my life. My son is now playing his senior year of football. I can only hope it does for him what it did for me. For 40 years I’ve seen Tom Drazenovich lead young people and change their lives. That field I played on under the lights on Friday nights needs to be named after Tom Drazenovich.
