Aug. 30, 2009-The Greenway volleyball team defeated Two Harbors 3-0. Taylor Orhn led the way for the Raiders.
Aug. 30, 2009-The Rapids girls tennis team defeated Duluth Marshall, Duluth Denfeld and Thief River Falls.
Aug. 30, 2009-The Rapids girls soccer team opened the season with a 5-0 victory over Eveleth-Gilbert. Johannah Kohorst had two goals.
Sept. 2, 2009-The defending section champion Deer River volleyball team pounded Cass Lake-Bena 3-0 to start the season. Leah Benham and Kari DeYoung are captains of the squad.
Sept. 2, 2009-The Rapids boys soccer team lost to Minnetonka 2-0.
Sept. 2, 2009-Paula Mackey was the Pokegama Women’s Club champion with a score of 85. Jan Maki was second while Carol Perrott placed third.

Aug. 27, 1994-Top scores for the Pokegama Men’s Club were Ted Kromy and Mike Vergin, both with 37, and Bill Sergot, 38.
Aug. 27, 1994-Jon Robinson of Appleton, Wis., turned in a 9-pound, 4-ounce walleye to win that division of the Rapids Tackle Fisherman’s Blue Book.
Aug. 30, 1994-The Mike’s Liquor baseball team from Bovey propelled itself into the quarterfinals of the Minnesota Class C Baseball Tournament with two wins. Mike’s rode the strength of Ted Kromy’s strong right arm as he defeated Milroy 3-1 while striking out 11. Gary “Bucky” Orhn had a big three-run home run. Mike’s then beat Union Hill 6-3 the following weekend as Kromy and Dave Madsen combined for the pitching win. Jim Underwood had a two-run double.
Aug. 30, 1994-Jeff Nyberg of Greenway has accepted a scholarship offer to play hockey at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks.

Aug. 28, 1969-Grand Rapids opens defense of its Iron Range Football Conference championship against Ely. Coached by Noble Hall, the Indians are led by Jay Columbus, Sam Gebhard, John Chatley, Gene Wohlsdorf, Paul Martineau, Mark Johnson, Earl Burnson, Tom Jones, Paul Miltich and Ed Chopp, among others.
Aug. 28, 1969-Recording perfect scores at the Grand Rapids Gun Club were Al Lilgren, Earl Hinegardner, Bill Cook, Lawrence Jondreau, Rex Watkins, Dick Sturk, Darryl Rollins, Dan Tryboyevich, Don Wendt, Hank Roy, Art Mariska, and Stan Kantor.
Sept. 1, 1969-Grand Rapids withstood a determined challenge by a game Ely football team for a paper-thin 6-0 edge in its Iron Range Conference opener. Jay Columbus intercepted a pass and dashed 86 yards for the lone touchdown of the game
