The Grand Rapids baseball team rallied for a 5-4 win over Hibbing Monday at Legion Field in Grand Rapids.

The Thunderhawks held an early 3-0 lead before the Bluejackets scored four runs in the third inning. Grand Rapids was able to tie the game at 4-4 in the fifth inning. It remained a tie game until the Thunderhawks broke through with the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Gideon Beck led the first inning off with a double, then came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Owen Linder to put Grand Rapids on top 1-0.

In the second inning, Jack Peart had a leadoff walk, then Alex McBride singled. After a stolen base from McBride, Beck delivered a two-RBI double to extend the Thunderhawks’ lead to 3-0.

Hibbing’s big third inning was started by a double from Mayson Brown. Will Durie drove in Brown with a single, then Joe Allison followed with an RBI single. A groundout RBI tied the game at 3-3 before Codieh Powers connected on an RBI double to give the Bluejackets the 4-3 advantage.

In the fifth inning, Beck reached on an infield single, then came around to score the tying run on a sacrifice fly from Collin Dibb.

The ninth inning was started by a leadoff single from Alex McBride. Wyatt Holcomb walked. Pinch runner Austin Moen ended up scoring on a ground out which resulted in an errant throw to first base allowing Moen to score.

Section Softball

Grand Rapids is the No. 6 seed in the Section 7AAA tournament. The Thunderhawks will open play against No. 3 Hermantown Wednesday in Cloquet. Cloquet is the No. 1 seed and hosts No. 8 Hibbing; No. 2 Chisago Lakes hosts No. 7 Princeton; and No. 4 North Branch hosts No. 5 Duluth Denfeld.

Greenway is the No. 5 seed in the Section 7AA tournament. The Raiders played at No. 4 Duluth Marshall Tuesday. No. 1 Proctor hosts No. 8 Mesabi East; No. 2 Virginia hosts No. 7 Two Harbors; and No. 3 Eveleth-Gilbert hosts No. 6 International Falls.

In the Section 7A tournament, Deer River is a No. 7 seed and played at No. 2 Mountain Iron-Buhl Tuesday. No. 6 Nashwauk-Keewatin played at No. 3 Littlefork-Big Falls Tuesday.

Hill City is a No. 2 seed in the Section 5A tournament and hosted No. 7 East Central Tuesday.
