PRINCETON — The Grand Rapids High School girls soccer team improved to 2-0 for the season as it defeated Princeton 4-2 in action on the road Saturday at Princeton.
Freshman Natalee Bushman and senior Ellie Tillma continued their hot scoring as Bushman netted two goals and Tillma added another.
Tillma scored the first goal unassisted for the Thunderhawks, and Taylor Birkey followed with Rapids’ second goal on an assist from Tillma.
Bushman scored the final two goals for the Thunderhawks as Taelyn Pomplun assisted on the first tally and Birkey assisted on the second goal.
The team was at home against North Branch on Tuesday and will play host to Two Harbors on Thursday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m. at Noble Hall Field in Grand Rapids.
Grand Rapids Triangular
GRAND RAPIDS — The Grand Rapids/Greenway girls tennis team dropped a pair of dual matches on Friday during a triangular at the Grand Rapids Middle School Tennis Courts.
The Thunderhawks lost to a pair of good teams, falling to Duluth East 4-3 and to Thief River Falls by a 6-1 margin.
On Tuesday, the Thunderhawks beat Hermantown 7-0.
The tennis team will be on the road for triangulars on Aug. 28 and 29.

TRF Falls 6
A tough Thief River Falls team defeated the Thunderhawks 6-1 in action on Friday.
Thief River Falls won three of the four singles matches and swept all three doubles matches in the victory.
The lone GRG point came at fourth singles where Taryn Hamling defeated Brooklyn Brouse 6-2, 6-4.
Duluth East 4
GRG coach Lew Smiley said recently that his doubles teams are a work in progress in the early season and it showed in this 4-3 loss to Duluth East.
The Thunderhawks captured three of the four singles matches but lost all three doubles matches as the Greyhounds took the win.
Picking up points for GRG were in second singles where Jordan Troumbly stopped Annabelle Humphreys of Duluth East 6-4, 6-0; in third singles where Emily Hill was victorious over Elley Graysmark 6-1, 6-0, and in fourth singles as Taryn Hamlingbeat Isla Pepinjak 6-4, 6-0,
GRAND RAPIDS — Grand Rapids defeated Hermantown 7-0 on Tuesday at home.
Winning singles matches for Grand Rapids were Eva Kangas, Jordan Troumbly, Emily Hill and Taryn Hamling.

EAST GRAND FORKS — The Grand Rapids High School boys soccer team jumped out to a lead in action Friday in East Grand Forks, but it could not hold the two-goal lead as East Grand Forks took a 3-2 win.
Junior attacker Nic Langlois scored both Grand Rapids goals in the loss.
The Thunderhawks’ game against Two Harbors on Aug. 26, was postponed due to inclement weather. The team was on the road at Hibbing on Tuesday and will be on the road to Chisago Lakes on Thursday, Aug. 29.
