July 26, 2009-The Rapids Legion baseball team is returning to the state tournament after a 10-6 come-from-behind victory over Duluth Lakeview. John Skrbec was winning pitcher.
July 26, 2009-Nashwauk-Keewatin capitalized on Deer River mistakes in picking up a 7-6 victory in the District 8 Division 2 playoffs.
July 26, 2009-Dave Carpenter and Bill Litchke of Grand Rapids came home with a $10,000 victory as they won the Krauss-Anderson Walleye Classic in Bemidji.
July 29, 2009-The Nashwauk-Keewatin American Legion baseball team defeated Marble 8-4 behind winning pitcher Zach DiIorio. Brandon Noonan had two hits and three RBIs for N-K while Allan Estey and Jake Feist each had two hits for Marble.
July 29, 2009-The Rapids Legion baseball team, 24-6 overall, will open up the state tournament against Hamline Purple in New Ulm.
July 29, 2009-The Rapids Moose girls fastpitch softball team concluded its season at the 16U state Class C tournament with a sixth-place finish out of 19 teams.
July 29, 2009-The Greenway Gold 18U summer fastpitch team won the state championship at Cloquet, going 5-1 in the tourney. Coaches are Kyle Erickson, Jen McInerney, Emily Erickson and Katie McBride. Members of the team are Kiersten Apel, Kayla McInerney, Haley Havens, Tawny Troumbly, Gina Goud, Nicolle Gross, Maria Peluso, Kacie Kuusisto, Emily Kessler, Kelcie Ingle, Abby Sundquist, Hannah Benzie, NIkki Healy and Molly Arola.
July 29, 2009-Tyler Norland hurled a shutout as the Bemidji Mudcats beat the Grand Rapids Indians men’s baseball team 5-0. Tyler Blomberg was losing pitcher.

July 24, 1994-The Rapids Legion team beat Hibbing 5-2. Brian Simonson was winning pitcher while Tom Peltier had two hits.
July 27, 1994-Kelly Kirwin of Grand Rapids, a junior-to-be at Grand Rapids High School, placed second in the MGA Junior Girls Championship at Worthington Country Club. Christina Ley of Grand Rapids was 15th.
July 27, 1994-The Grand Rapids Rebels baseball team split a doubleheader with Bemidji, winning the first game 14-3 and losing the second 9-5. Bill Kinnunen had two hits and two RBIs for Rapids while Jamie Gilbert was winning pitcher. Gilbert and Scott Munger both had two hits for the local team in the loss.

July 24, 1969-Four Itasca County men are among the 79 entries in the five standard rodeo events for the 14th annual North Star Stampede at Effie. They are John Ritter of Bovey, Ronnie Root, Bigfork, and Bill Picht and Ray Stahlberg of Grand Rapids.
July 24, 1969-Ray’s Sport and Cycle Shop fastpitch softballers swept a doubleheader against the Sandstone Federal prison team. It won the first game 10-3 behind the pitching of Chuck Moen while Bob Perreault hit a grand slam and Lyle Edgeton also homered. In the second game, Dennis Bowman was winning pitcher while Don Tervo had six hits. The team also swept a doubleheader from East End Tavern.
July 24, 1969-Recording perfect scores at the Grand Rapids Gun Club were Irven Becker, Dan Trboyevich, Rex Watkins, Ed Felosi and Earl Bouvette.
July 28, 1969-Balsam beat Inger 15-13. Peluso homered for Balsam and Leonard hit one for Inger. Vern Radke pitched to two batters to get credit for the win.
