COLERAINE — The Itasca Community College football team dropped a defensive struggle to Central Lakes by a 14-6 margin Saturday at Dixon-Barle Field in Coleraine.
Central Lakes led 6-0 after one quarter and then added another touchdown in the third quarter for a 14-0 advantage.
The Vikings scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough as Central Lakes – located in Brainerd – took the win.
The two teams combined for just 471 yards of total offense with Itasca picking up 238 yards with 54 rushing yards.
The Vikings’ defense held Central Lakes to 122 yards rushing and 233 total yards of offense.
Central Lakes’ Jakob Olson was 6-of-17 in the passing department for 111 yards and two touchdowns, one each to Jayou Mensah and Devonair Kelsaw.
Jesse Sherwood picked up 58 yards on the ground for the Raiders while Rashaun Cage had 54.
Brandon Hokkanen completed 5-of-14 passes for 99 yards and a touchdown for Itasca while Jayon McInnis was 8-of-17 for 85 yards. Antwan Downs had four catches for 71 yards and a touchdown while Joshua Booker picked up 52 yards on the ground.
Defensively for Itasca, Tavian Edwards had nine solo tackles and five assists along with one sack. Cameron Strapp had seven solo and five assisted tackles and Devin Joyce had five solo and four assisted tackles. Cameron Payne had an interception while Emonte Wilson recovered a fumble.
With the loss, the Vikings are now 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the East Division. Mesabi Range is on top with a 3-0-1 mark followed by Rochester, 3-1, Central Lakes, 3-2, ICC, 2-2, Fond du Lac, 1-3, and Vermilion, 0-4-1.
NDSCS leads the West Division with a 3-0 record followed by Minnesota West, 21, Northland, 2-2, Dakota College, 1-2, and Minnesota State-Fergus Falls, 0-3.
Itasca will be on the road at Rochester on Saturday.
