GRAND RAPIDS — The postseason awards are streaming in for Itasca Community College volleyball player Brianna Sutherland.

Sutherland was named to the Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) All-State Second Team early this week.

For the season, she was third in the state in kills per set, averaging 3.98, 10th in kills with 251 and seventh in kill percentage at .313, and sixth in digs per set with 4.44. The statistics show she was an outstanding all-around player for the Vikings.

The MCAC Players of the Year were Carrie Rutledge of Rochester and Hailey Tihlarik of Central Lakes.

Named First Team All State were Rutledge, Tihlarik, Brikkin McCready, Rochester, Sydney Berg, Central Lakes, Sydney Hovland, Fergus Falls’, Montana Baker, Mesabi Range, Kamryn D’Heilly, St. Cloud Tech, Carly Mekash, Northland, and Hayley Dessner, Rochester.

Named to the Second Team All State team along with Sutherland were Grace Mauersberger, St. Cloud Tech, Kaylyn Bowen, Hibbing, Tori Nelson, St. Cloud Tech, Maggi Fellerman, Central Lakes, Morgan Gronli, Ridgewater, Kylie Porter, Central Lakes, Kate Bade, Rochester, and Isabella Mattila, Mesabi Range.

Sutherland also was named to the Northern Division First Team, the only Viking to be named on the team.

However, another Viking – Natalie Bakkedahl – was selected as a member of the Northern Division Second Team.

Jane Peterson of Central Lakes was named Northern Division Coach of the Year. Fond du Lac was awarded the division’s Sportsmanship Award.

In addition, Sutherland also was named to the Region XIIIB Volleyball All-Tournament Team.
