FERGUS FALLS — The Itasca Community College football team improved to 2-0 for the season with a 38-0 victory over Minnesota State Community & Technical College on Saturday, Aug. 31.
The Vikings found the end zone first when quarterback Javon McInnis scored on a QB sneak from three yards out. From there it was a defensive battle and both teams struggled to move the ball on offense. Late in the second quarter the Vikings were able convert on a third and long to get on the scoreboard again. McInnis completed a 13-yard touchdown pass to Keane Hoggard to extend the ICC lead at half to 13 -0.
The Spartans opened the third quarter with a couple of big runs and entered the red zone but failed to convert it to any points. Turnovers and penalties plagued the Spartans for the rest of the half and the Vikings were able to score 25 unanswered to win the game 38 - 0.
Scoring touchdowns for the Vikings were Joshua Booker on a one-yard run, Jakari Books on a 26-yard pass from Brandon Hokkanen, William Thompson on a 49-yard fumble return, and Tyree Studivant on a 48-yard scoring pass from Hokkanen.
For the game, McInnis was 9-out of-16 in the passing department for 103 yards and a touchdown with one interception. Meanwhile, Hokkanen was 9-of-15 for 174 yards and two touchdowns with one pick.
Booker led the Vikings in rushing with 78 yards while Trevon Clay picked up 31 on the ground
Downs had eight catches for 129 yards and a score.
Peyton Pruitt threw for 123 yards and Joel Dorjuste led the Spartans in rushing with 41 yards. Josh Yahsha led the Spartans with 63 receiving yards.
