Greenway sophomore Geno Uhrbom competed at the Hamline Elite Meet Saturday. Uhrbom won the 1600-meter race, finishing in a time of 4:22.28. He was two seconds clear of second place finisher Lukas Hessini of Mounds View.

Cloquet tops GRG

The Grand Rapids/Greenway boys tennis team dropped a 4-3 meet to Cloquet Friday. GRG had wins from Dylan Owens at No. 4 singles. Owens defeated Travis berg, 7-5, 7-6 (5). David Chandler and Ben Ries topped Adam Blesener and Sam Brenner at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, 6-3. At No. 3 doubles, Zachary Lagergren and Alex Frimanslund defeated Andy Acers and Ethan Doty, 5-7, 6-3, 10-8.

GRG hosted Virginia Tuesday.

Lightning fall to CL, Sartell

The Grand Rapids/Greenway girls lacrosse team dropped games to Chisago Lakes, 14-13, Friday and Sartell, 9-4, Saturday.

In the loss to the Wildcats, Hailee Orhn led GRG with seven goals, while Abby Bauman scored four.

Orhn had three goals in the loss to Sartell.

GRG (0-3) hosts its first home game against St. Paul North Friday at Sugarbrooke Golf Course.

The Grand Rapids boys also play Friday at Sugarbrooke with a game against Forest Lake.

ICC splits with Rainy River, Northland

The ICC softball team split games with Rainy River and Northland over the weekend.

In the first game Saturday against the Voyageurs, the Vikings put up eight runs in the fourth inning en route to a 10-1 win. Sarah Moir, Maya Schroeder and Kenzi Riedel each had three hits. Mackie Dostal hit a three-run home run, Riedel homered and Madison Lathrop drove in two runs. Maddy Shepard and Taylor Shepard each had two hits.

In the second game, the Vikings fell 10-5. Schroeder had three hits, while Moir, Lathrop, Talyn McClaflin and Claudia Burns each had two hits.

On Sunday, ICC dropped the first game 5-2 to Northland. Schroeder and Burns had two hits apiece, while Dostal and Maddy Shepard drove in runs.

In game two, ICC pounded out 23 hits and scored four runs in the eighth inning to secure the win. Lathrop had four hits. Dostal homered and drove in three runs. McClaflin had three hits and Schroeder, Riedel, Maddy Shepard and Taylor Shepard each had two hits.

ICC (12-18) heads to Hibbing Wednesday, hosts Northland Thursday and hosts Central Lakes Sunday.
