The Grand Rapids baseball team picked up a pair of wins this week over Rocori, 6-4, Tuesday and Hermantown, 5-4, Thursday.
On Tuesday, the Thunderhawks went 10 innings against the Spartans with Gideon Beck knocking in the game winning run.
Grand Rapids was able to plate four runs in the fourth inning. After Colin Dibb scored on error, Kodi Miller reached on another error which scored Alex McBride. Grant Anderson then connected on a two-run single to put the Thunderhawks in front, 4-3.
Anderson went 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs, while Beck had two hits with the RBI.
On Thursday, Dibb scored the game winner on a squeeze bunt laid down by McBride in the seventh inning.
Anderson had the win on the mound and had two hits, while Ty Karnes threw six innings with four strikeouts.
Grand Rapids was at Chisago Lakes Friday, heads to Duluth Marshall Monday and plays at Cloquet Tuesday.
The Grand Rapid/Greenway boys tennis team defeated Hermantown, 5-2, Thursday.
The Thunderhawks swept the singles matches and took one of the three doubles matches.
At No. 1 singles, Dominic Nalan had a 6-4, 6-0 win over Ethan Hallgren. Matthew Frimanslund didn’t drop a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win over Nolan Brickson at No. 2 singles. Easton Young took the first set over Chase Sams, 6-2 at No. 3 singles, then pulled out a 7-5 win in the second set to close out the match. At No. 4 singles, Dylan Owens swept Adam Rohlander, 6-0, 6-0.
The win in doubles came from the No. 2 team of David Chandler and Ben Ries who won in straight sets over Thomas Rohlander and Ben Kangas, 6-1, 6-3.
GRG hosted Andover and Chisago Lakes Friday and heads to Bemidji Monday.
