Timothy “Tim” Washburn Sr was born in Grand Rapids on Dec. 23, 1960 to Nancy and Richard Washburn. He attended Hill City Schools and played football and was the boys’ high school track team in the late 1970’s (earning the nickname Peter Rabbit and resulting in a matching tattoo).
Tim left this life on Sunday, August 18, 2019. He also left behind a lot of junk (“treasures” to Tim) that will be up to his wife and son to dispose of. After an appropriate amount of time, come out, take a look, and make an offer.
Tim joined the Army National Guard while still in high school and was a tank commander.
Tim had two terrific sons by his first marriage which ended in divorce. He later married Sandy Rassier. She was his partner in crime, good natured butt of his jokes, love of his life, and his fulltime caregiver after ALS reared its ugly head. Tim and Sandy lived together for several years before marrying. When asked when they intended to get married, Tim would reply “I don’t need a toaster”. When they married in 2001 and had a reception, EVERYONE gave them a toaster.
Tim was a mechanical genius. His builds were legendary, and his skills served him well in his career. He and Sandy owned and operated Rassier School bus. His last – and possibly favorite job – was as a millwright at Keetac. He loved the work – and his coworkers.
Tim was an avid outdoorsman. His favorite activities were deer hunting, spearing and sturgeon fishing. He took enormous pride in witnessing his grandson bag his first deer in 2017.
Tim adored his grandkids. He delighted in teaching them all kinds of skills, coaching them for kiddie tractor pulls, etc. We think he wanted to impart all of his knowledge to them while he was still with us.
Tim is survived by his loving wife, Sandy; son Tim, Jr of Hill City; stepson Al (Julia) Rassier; grandchildren, Damon and Kinley of Aitkin and Spencer of Hill City. He’s also sorely missed by his siblings, Charlene of Baltimore, MD, Randy (Mary) of Hill City, and Lorraine (John) Hover of Phoenix, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Rick. He’s also survived by his beloved cats, Russell, Pouncer and Minnie Mouse.
Visitation will be at Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, MN on Thursday, August 22, 2019 from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. There will be an informal service of storytelling and laughs as Tim would want it at Spang Township Hall, Hill City, MN on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.
