Thomas Joseph Hewitt, age 72, of Grand Rapids, MN passed away Saturday, January 11, 2020 at his home with his family by his side.
Tom was born in 1947 in Chicago, IL to Richard and Florence Hewitt and grew up in Calumet Park, IL. As a young man, he learned the painting and decorating trade from his “Uncle Bill” Hewitt and worked for him for many years.
Tom met his wife and began their 45-year marriage in 1974. Soon after they moved to Squaw Lake, MN where they owned and operated Chippewas Resort for 13 years. He started a family and made many lifelong friends there. In 1992 after selling the resort and moving to Grand Rapids, Tom used his knowledge of decorating to start his business, Quality Painting and Decorating. He shared this knowledge and worked side by side with his son, who continues his success.
Tom enjoyed fishing and was an avid hunter. He curled at the Itasca Curling Club, winning many awards and friendships along the way. Tom was also a member of Hole in One Investment Club.
Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard; and niece, Tarri Jo. Tom is survived by his wife, Anne Marie; daughter, Aimee (Mike) Heinen of Big Lake, MN; sons, Thomas II of Grand Rapids, MN and Anthony (Holly) of Big Lake, MN; four grandchildren, Braeden, Tristen, Bradley, Karly; brother, Christopher (Maricolleen); and several nieces.
A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, June 20, 2020 in Goodland, MN.
