Robert “Sandy” H. Loscheider

Robert “Sandy” H. Loscheider, age 94, of Grand Rapids, MN passed away Monday, December 2, 2019 at his home, surrounded by family.

Robert was born to Peter and Margaret Loscheider in Calumet, MN on April 28, 1925. Bob volunteered to be drafted in 1943, serving with the 103rd Infantry Division in the European theater in 1944-1945. He was wounded in the Voges Mountains and later returned to his unit and saw combat in France, Germany, Austria, and Italy. After returning home, he attended Itasca Jr. College and later served Itasca County for over 40 years. During that time, Bob served as auditor, treasurer, and commissioner. Bob was instrumental in converting the county’s property tax ledger system to a computerized system. As a result, Governor Wendell Anderson appointed Bob to a committee assisting other counties to do the same. While serving as commissioner, Bob facilitated the transfer of the county hospital from county management to private management. He also tirelessly served as treasurer of numerous civic organizations in the Grand Rapids community. His life was dedicated to serving family and community. On September 3, 1949, Bob married Alice Weyrens of Grand Rapids.

Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice; infant daughter, Betsy Ann; grandson, Stephen Cordes; sisters, Geraldine Birch; Viola Thompson, Doris Vipond MacDonald, Germain Peterson, Agnes Peterson, Greta Altman, Marlene Nelson; brothers, George and Lawrence.

Bob is survived by his children, Tom (Marsha), Nancy, Wendy, Ann, Steve Loscheider, Julie (Ken) Cordes, Barb (Steve) Johnson; sister, Tony Gargano; brother, Peter (MaryAnn); 11 grandchildren, Jason, Matt, Molly, Sarah, Kelly, Justin, James, Brian, Jenn, Alex and Pete; and 12 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday December 13, 2019 at 9:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church followed by the 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial. Fr. Seth Gogolin will officiate. A reception will follow. Burial will be at Itasca-Calvary Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MN at a later date.
