Orville Elmer Gibbs, 91, Grand Rapids, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at Evergreen Terrace.
Orville was born July 24, 1912, in Swaledale, Iowa, to George W. and Agnes S. (Englund) Gibbs. He attended school at Cowhorn in Splithand Township where he also helped on the family farm. Orville was united in marriage to Marion Phillips on Oct. 22, 1933, in Grand Rapids. He was a farmer, logger and a carpenter until his retirement.
He is survived by two daughters, Dolores (Darold) Hughes, Grand Rapids, and Joyce (James) Carlile, Warba; one brother, Frank (Evelyn) Gibbs, Minneapolis; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Marion; sisters, Mary Erven, Cleo Gilbert and Mae Gibbs; and brothers, Charles Gibbs and infant Willie Gibbs.
Services: Saturday, Feb. 28 at 11 a.m. at Rowe Funeral Home with the Rev. William Fox officiating. Visitation is one hour before the service.
Burial: Harris Cemetery in the spring.
