Michael Albert Carnes, 39, Duluth and formerly of Grand Rapids, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, at his home.
He was born Nov. 23, 1964, in Little Falls, Minn., to Albert and Frances (Somers) Carnes. He attended school in Grand Rapids and graduated in 1983. After high school, he attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth and later attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison where he earned a master’s degree in hydrogeology. Mike was employed for more than 10 years with Barr Engineering in St. Paul and later transferred to its Duluth location. Michael was recently employed with the Fond du Lac Indian Reservation. He loved the outdoors, bird watching, canoeing and cross country skiing.
He is survived by his father, Albert Carnes, Cohasset; his mother, Frances Kay (Orville) Splettstoesser, Apache Junction, Ariz.; brothers Gregory Carnes, Fairfield, Iowa; Frederick Carnes, Smyrna, Tenn.; and Jeffery Carnes, St. Paul; sisters Deanna (Lonnie) Waller, Grand Rapids; and Brenda (Pete) Muus, St. Paul; former wife Tara Marseglia, Coronado, Calif.; one niece and three nephews.
Services: Wednesday, Oct. 6, at 11 a.m. at Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, with the Rev. Thomas Radaich officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, and will continue one hour prior to the memorial service on Wednesday.
