Mayfred Krueger Denny

We lost another member of the greatest generation on February 11, 2020 when Mayfred Krueger Denny passed away in Deer River MN. Mayfred was born in New Brighton MN on May 25th, 1922 to Kurt and Cora Krueger. The youngest of 6 children, she attended schools at Turtle Lake and graduated from White Bear High School. In 1954 she married George William Denny and moved to Bena MN to help operate and eventually take over ownership of Denny’s Resort. “Bud and Freddie” operated Denny’s Resort together and eventually with their 4 sons, Jeff (Rebecca) of Duluth, MN, Bruce (Brenda) of Maple Grove, MN, Craig (Amy) of Council Bluffs, IA and Dean (Paula) of Isanti, MN until their retirement in 1989.

Mayfred lived a life of high moral character and strong Christian faith. She was a member at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids MN and the American Legion Auxiliary in Cass Lake MN. Her retirement years were spent doing crossword puzzles, bowling and golfing with friends until she was into her 90’s. She was also an accomplished seamstress and award winning quilter. Her interactions with others were always pleasant and positive.

Preceded in death by her husband Bud, 2 sisters and four brothers. Survived by her 4 sons, 5 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Many thanks to the caregivers at Comstock Court and Maple Woods Assisted Living both in Deer River MN and to everyone who made a difference in this very special person’s life.
