Jack Howard Davies, age 67, resident of Brainerd, died Saturday, August 31 at Essentia – St. Joseph’s Hospital. He was born on October 4, 1951 in Crosby, MN to Calvin and Verna (Lundeen) Davies. He graduated in 1969 from Greenway High School in Coleraine, MN. He enlisted in the Navy where he became a communications specialist monitoring ships and decoding Russian submarine communications in the South Pacific during the Vietnam War.
He married Kathleen Houwman on January 8, 1972 after completing his service, they moved to Brainerd in 1973 where he attended Brainerd Community College and joined the Brainerd Police Department in January of 1975. He served the Brainerd Police Department for 30 years, including teaching the first D.A.R.E. program in the school district. After retirement from the Police Department he worked for the Sheriffs Department as a Bailiff in the Crow Wing County Courts.
He was a member of the American Legion, past Worshipful Master of the Masonic Lodge, Aurora 100. He enjoyed camping with his wife Kathy, children Ian and Holly, later including all 5 grandsons. He trained his hunting dogs and participated in many hunt tests throughout the years. He also enjoyed hunting in Canada and South Dakota with family and friends.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents Calvin and Verna. He leaves behind his wife Kathy, son Ian (Natalie) daughter Holly (Pete) Gaylord and grandsons Calvin, Soren, Finnian, Emmitt and Kellen. Brother Gerald (Denise) Davies, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Monday, September 9, 2019 at the Brainerd American Legion from 11:00 am - 3:00 p.m. with a gathering from 11-12, services from 12-1 and a luncheon to follow. Arrangements by Nelson-Doran Funeral Home, Brainerd.
