Herman A. Aho, age 91, of Grand Rapids, MN passed away Monday, September 9, 2019 at The Lodge at Grand Village.
Herman was born in 1928 to Herman and Inga Aho in Suomi, MN. Herman graduated from Deer River High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On March 9, 1952, Herman and Ellen Erickson were united in marriage in Suomi, MN. Herman worked as an underground miner for various mines on the iron range and was later employed as a pipefitter for Blandin Paper Co for over 30 years.
Herman enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, D.A.V., Suomi Lutheran Church, and was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. in Grand Rapids and Talmoon.
Preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sylvia Jones and Aune Christie; three brothers-in-law, Kenneth Erickson, Darl Jones, and David Christie; and infant granddaughter, Brenda Aho.
Herman is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ellen; daughter, Ann (Mike) Smith of Grand Rapids, MN; sons, Ken (Cindy) Aho of Grand Rapids, MN, Keith (Sandi) Aho of Deer River, MN; five grandchildren, Derek Aho, Kenny (Jessica) Aho, Katie (Matt) Hopkins, Becky (Dan) Gilbert, Nicholas (Jordyn) Aho; eight great grandchildren; and special friends, Nancy Probst of Marcell, MN and Melvin and Marge Wilson of Grand Rapids, MN.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 12, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, MN and will continue at church on Friday, September 13, 2109 at 10:00 AM at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Grand Rapids, MN. The Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 AM at the church. Rev. Vicki Taylor will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be at Suomi Lutheran Cemetery, Suomi, MN.
