Duane Elton Gannon, age 67, lifelong resident of Grand Rapids, Minnesota passed away from a heart attack in his home on Wednesday, July 10, 2019.
Duane attended local schools in Grand Rapids graduating from high school in 1970. He attended Itasca Community College and transferred to St. Cloud State University to pursue a degree in elementary education. After completing student teaching, he pursued a math major. Returning to Grand Rapids, he went to work for Hicks’ Wild Rice and the US Postal Service. He then went on to work at the Blandin Paper Mill for nearly 20 years.
Duane enjoyed spending time with his family, especially family trips to Florida and Texas. He had a great passion for animals, and loved horses, dogs and rabbits. He spent his retirement playing card and dice games with his family and could often be found with his son Ryan driving around the area to see the beautiful horses and farms.
Duane was preceded in death by his son Ryan David Gannon and his parents Thelma (Harthan) and Myron Gannon. He is survived by his wife of 40 years Marcia Gannon; his sons, Joseph and Jonathan; his brothers, Gary (Cathy) and Myron (Margaret) Gannon; sisters, Sandra (Jarold) Dickmann and Rhonda (Naftolei Zilverberg) Gannon; as well as many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, MN followed by Memorial Service at 2:00 PM. Fr. Charlie Friebohle will officiate. Burial will be at Itasca-Calvary Cemetery. A gathering of friends and family at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Grand Rapids following the Memorial Service and burial.
