Douglas Elwin Johnson, 69 of Carlton, MN passed away Saturday, August 10, 2019 after battling Leukemia. He passed peacefully with his family by his side. He was born March 31, 1950 in Crosby to Walter and Bess (Herrick) Johnson and grew up in Floodwood. On May 18, 1971 he married Bobbie Jo Nass in Hill City. Doug served his country in Vietnam where he was wounded in combat in 1970. While serving as Sergeant in the Army he earned the Bronze Star with a ā€œVā€ for valor and two Purple Hearts.

Doug attended Moose Lake United Methodist Church, and was lifetime member of the VFW, DAV, and 29 Pines Golf Course in Mahtowa.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Johnson and Bess Brissett; parents-in-law, Bill and Jean Nass; brother, Maynard Brissett; and brother-in-law, Wally Nass.

He is survived and will be sadly missed by his wife of 48 years, Bobbie; daughters, Kandi (Eric) Johnson of Floodwood and Kari (Scott) Turner of Shreveport, LA; six grandchildren, Lauren, Kennedi, and Madelyn Johnson, and Peyton, Will, and Jake Turner; brothers, Dennis (Phylis) Johnson of Grand Rapids and David (Judy) Johnson of Cotton; sisters, Donna (Bob) Helland of Pine City and Doreen Scholzen of Stacy; sisters-in-law, Sheila (Greg) Iverson of Litchfield and Billie Nass of Floodwood; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 12:00 p.m. until the 1:00 p.m. Memorial Service Friday, August 16, 2019 in the Moose Lake United Methodist Church, 301 3rd St., Moose Lake. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carlton VFW Honor Guard. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Atkins Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
