Douglas D. Salisbury, age 94, of Grand Rapids, MN passed away Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Maplewood Assisted Living, Deer River, MN.
Doug was born in 1925 in Grand Rapids, MN to Maurice and Grace Salisbury. Doug left high school to join the U.S. Navy CB’s, serving in the South Pacific, during World War II. After his discharge, Doug attended Duluth Business School and attained his GED. Doug and Irene Dawson were united in marriage on September 24, 1949. Doug owned and operated Cohasset Mill and Lumber Co for 35 years.
Doug had a great sense of humor with everyone. He enjoyed woodworking and design, sailing, and building boats and loved to duck hunt and deer hunt. He often said, “it’s never about the game but about the adventure”. He imparted upon his sons to treat others fairly and with respect and above all, do the right thing.
Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Walter; and sisters, Eileen Kantor, Virginia Wilcox, and Babe Smith.
Doug is survived by his wife of 70 years, Irene; sons, Michael (Debbie), Nathan (Lori), Brett (Mary), Ron (Lynn) Salisbury; 11 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Doug’s family would like to thank Maplewood Assisted Living in Deer River and Essentia Hospice for their exceptional care.
