Donald H. Majerle, age 79, of Grand Rapids, MN passed away Thursday, January 9, 2020, at Essentia Health - St. Mary’s Medical Center, Duluth, MN.
Donald Majerle was born in 1940 to Herman and Alberta (Wehde) Majerle in Washington, DC. Donald moved to Duluth, MN at a young age and attended Central High School and The University of Minnesota, Duluth. In August 1963, he was united in marriage to Marcella “Marcie” Lorentzson. Donald worked at Northwest Paper Company in Cloquet, Minnesota before moving to Grand Rapids in 1968. Donald worked at Blandin Paper Company in Grand Rapids as a Chemist and a purchasing agent until his retirement in 1995. Donald enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and snowmobiling with his family and friends.
Donald was very involved in the community. He was a member of the Airplane Club, Great Rivers Youth for Christ, Red Hat Fishing, a volunteer at the Food Shelf, the Vintage Car Club, Good Sam’s Camping, Allegro RV group, and the Sno-drifters snowmobile club. Donald was a member of the Alliance Church in Grand Rapids, were he participated in Pioneer Club, Awanas, Elder and the Men’s Bible Study group.
Preceded in death by his parents. Donald is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marcie; sons, Mike (Tracy) Majerle, Jon (Sherri) Majerle; six grandsons, Chris (Ellie), Kyle (Kailee), Luke (Sarah), Ben (MiKel Vacek), Joe, Beau; and three great grandchildren, Ryia, Saige, Drake.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 12, 2020 at Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A Memorial Service will be Monday, January 13, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Grand Rapids Alliance Church. Rev. Erik Kling will officiate. Donald’s wishes were that bright vivid colors be worn to the memorial service, no black please.
