Dennis Lee Holcomb, 72, a lifetime Freestone resident died peacefully at his home on Saturday, June 08, 2019 after a long battle with COPD, that he fought tirelessly.
Dennis was born on July 7, 1947 in Grand Rapids, MN to Theodor and Mryl (VanCampen) Holcomb. In 1966, he was drafted by the U.S. Army and completed basic training at Fort Hood, TX. He was assigned to the 11th Squadron and deployed to Xuan Loc, Vietnam as a Private First Class in 1967 and was discharged honorably in 1968 after humbly serving his country. He was also a member of the Labor Union from 1968-1988.
Dennis was a brave and loyal soldier, as well as loving husband, father and friend. He married the the love of his life, Carolyn (Carlson) Holcomb on 12/1/1975 and they were married for 43 years. Dennis thoroughly enjoyed farming his land, watching the birds and animals. One of his true loves was books and music . He was an avid reader often suggesting and borrowing books to friends from his vast collection. One of his greatest joys were his grandchildren and was proud of all of his children.
He is survived by his loving wife Carolyn, daughters, Tiana (Jeff Carlson), Dion (Darin) Card, sons, Theodore Holcomb and Andrew Holcomb, his grandchildren; Brittany, Faith, Madison, Evan, Landyn, Drew, Rory, Bodie, Kortni Rose and his great-grandson Wyatt. He is preceded in death by his father Theodore, mother, Mryl, five sisters and two brothers.
All are welcome to attend a celebration of life in honor of Dennis on June 20, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Deer River Township Hall, 41183 CO RD 19, Deer River, MN 56636 with Military Honors at 5:30 p.m. Condolences my be sent to 36265 Freestone Rd Grand Rapids, MN 55744.
