Dennis Dale “Denny” Buckley, age 82, of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away on Friday, April 16, 2021 at Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN from heart complications.
Dennis was born in 1938 to Leo & Eldora (Krahnke) Buckley in Grand Rapids, MN. Growing up across from Blandin Beach, he quickly became an avid swimmer. He attended the Central School and graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1956. He played hockey & football for Grand Rapids High School and participated in gymnastics. He still enjoyed watching hockey & football games - especially the Packers, the Minnesota Wild & the Gophers.
Dennis was baptized, confirmed, and married at First Lutheran Church and later attended Mt. Olive Church. He served 2 years in the Army where he received several military awards. Following his service, he began 35 years of work at Northwestern Bell Telephone “Ma Bell” until his retirement. He was a trap shooter and enjoyed hunting for any animal and fishing with his crews. In the fall/winter, he could be found at the hunting shack or Hodgins-Berardo Arena. In recent summers, he spent time giving 4-wheeler rides and fishing “secret lakes” with his grandchildren. He enjoyed daily coffee at Burger King with his buddies and making his twice a week trips to Deer River with his brother, Pat.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack Buckley and his wife, Kathy (Wilson) Buckley; two sisters, Ruth Ann Bay and her husband Roger; Leolyn Vik and her husband Richard; sister-in-law, Kathryn (Olson) Buckley; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; daughter, Allison Buckley; son, Adam (Kelly) Buckley; three special grandchildren, Emmerson Olivia, Henrik Adam, and Milan Dennis; brother, Patrick Buckley and his family; sister, Carol (Frank) Zbreski and her family; three godsons; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be Monday, April 26, 2021 at 12:00 PM at Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, MN followed by the 1:00 PM memorial service, officiated by Rev. Dr. Neil R. Rand, PhD. Burial and military honors will be at Itasca-Calvary Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MN.
