1952 - 2019
Dee (Doris) Kay Warren, 67, finished her struggle with cancer on Sept. 30, 2019. She passed away peacefully at home with her loving and devoted husband Dave by her side.
Dee was born Aug. 22, 1952, in Grand Rapids, Minn., to Alan and Carol Huffer. She glided through childhood despite the tormenting of three lively brothers. Dee was a 1970 graduate of Greenway High School. After high school she moved to Minneapolis where she attended cosmetology school. She worked as a beautician, a waitress, and then as a real estate agent in the metro area. Eventually, she migrated back to the Grand Rapids area where she met up with her old high school sweetheart David Warren. Dee and Dave were married on New Year’s Eve 1999.
Dee loved to fish with Dave for crappies, to bake, to grow flowers, to take Shiner on walks, to winter in Arkansas, and mostly to hang out with friends and relatives to visit and laugh. Her two favorite organizations were the United Methodist Church of Grand Rapids and the YMCA where she greatly enjoyed her wonderful friends and loved them dearly.
Dee was preceded in death by her parents, Alan and Carol, and her beloved puppy Shiner. She is survived by her loving husband Dave, brothers Harry (Trudy) Huffer of rural Bovey, Bob (Debbie) of Loxley, AL, Jim of Ankeny, IA, and many nephews and nieces.
The family wants to give special thanks to Bev Johnson, Shelly Scherf, Lynda Tarbuck and the Hospice folks who were so helpful, loving and supportive to Dee and Dave during Dee’s illness.
At Dee’s request there will not be a memorial service. A celebration of life gathering for great memories, friendship and laughs will occur at a later date.
