Charles (Charlie) Merlyn Howe died peacefully in Deer River, MN, on April 10, 2019 surrounded by family. Charlie was born to Hans and Marie Howe in Deer River, MN, on October 18, 1929. He attended high school in Deer River and went to work in Alaska shortly after graduation. Charlie then joined the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Back in the states, Charlie married Ruth Lindeborg on July 3, 1954. They were happily married for nearly 65 years and raised two daughters, Lauramae and Arliss. Charlie was an avid outdoorsman, a master gardener, a friend to all, and a proud member of his community. He loved his family above all else.
Charlie is preceded in death by two daughters, Lauramae Ann Howe and Arliss Lynn Dewey, his brother Mahlon Howe, and sisters Arliss Ekholm and Lois Whirley, as well as several other loved ones and close friends. He is survived by his wife Ruth, his sister Carolyn Meyer, 7 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, at Carroll Funeral Home in Deer River.
