Audrey Ann (Howard, Martin) Young, age 82, a 50+ year resident of Grand Rapids, MN died on July 5th, 2019 at her son’s home in Rochester, MN. She was born on December 11th, 1936 to Luther and Alice Howard. Audrey grew up in the Iron Hub area outside of Aitkin MN, graduating from Aitkin High School in 1954. She attended college at Bemidji State University and later at University of MN Duluth obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Physical Education in 1958. In 1970, Audrey furthered her education by taking a one-year sabbatical leave to attend Wisconsin State University – Superior as a Graduate Assistant.
Audrey’s professional career was centered around 30-years of teaching High School Business for District 318 in Grand Rapids. Early in her career, she also taught High School for 5 years in Michigan along with 2 years of Vocational School. Audrey retired from teaching from District 318 in 1993 and did substitute teaching with the district for many years after.
Audrey married William (Bill) Martin in 1958 and was widowed in 1969. Audrey married Charles Young in 1972 and was widowed in 1990. She then spent 20+ years with her significant other, Bud Tervo.
Audrey’s passion in life was teaching, and she enthusiastically taught business classes to her High School students. She was genuinely interested in her student’s success and their welfare. She was a very generous person, willingly giving to causes and to those in need throughout her life. Audrey also enjoyed traveling, and planned many trips, especially in her retirement years.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Alice Howard; two husbands, William (Bill) Martin and Charles Young; one brother, Edward Berg; and one son, William (Billy) Martin Jr.
Audrey is survived by her significant other, Bud Tervo; one brother, Michael Howard; one son, Scott Martin; six grandchildren, Tess Buescher, Melissa Maier, Tella Martin, Ryan Martin, Tori Martin and Jason Martin; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life with a light lunch will be held on Friday, July 19th, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Moose Lodge in Grand Rapids, MN.
