Arlene Viola (Nelson) Bjorklund, age 92 was quietly called home on October 5, 2019 at Grand Village Nursing Home in Grand Rapids, MN.
Arlene was born to Paul Nelson and Carrie (Larson) Nelson on August 23, 1927 in Rush City, MN. She graduated from Rush City High School and attended Bethel College in St. Paul, then transferred and graduated from Mounds Midway School of Nursing, St. Paul, MN in 1949 with a degree in Nursing. Arlene married Harold Raymond Bjorklund on July 29, 1950; they had 3 children born to them. Arlene had a passion for helping people and she worked as an RN in 5 different states as necessitated by several relocations in their marriage. She loved her Lord Jesus Christ and was active in churches in each city she lived in. Arlene was the perfect partner for Harold and could often be found in the background of an activity quietly supporting her very social spouse whether it be hosting visitors/family members for weekend visits in their home, handling many relocation details, or cooking for droves of people in a gathering of family or friends. She loved her family deeply and displayed her strength in a quiet but firm manner. She and Harold owned and operated the Gambles hardware store in Grand Rapids, MN for many years and then enjoyed many years of retirement at their lake home in Mora, MN during the summers and in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas in the winters.
Arlene is survived by her children, Craig (Barbara) Bjorklund of Dayton, OH, Sandra (Brian) Harling of Bovey, MN, and Bradley (Sharon) Bjorklund of Grand Rapids, MN. She has 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Carrie, her husband of 68 years, Harold R. Bjorklund, and her sisters, Joyce (Richard) Sleiter of Roseville, MN, and Gladys (Carl) Skogman of Stanchfield, MN.
A celebration of her life will be held on November 10, 2019 at the Hosanna Church in Lakeville, MN. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. and the memorial service to follow at 1:00 p.m.
