Monday, Jan. 20

Accident:

At 11:07 a.m., deputies responded to an accident on Highway 6 and Chase Lake Road in Deer River. A citation was issued to the driver who blew a stop sign causing the accident.

Officer injured:

At 6:44 p.m., a deputy was injured while arresting an individual on Sugar Lake Trail in Cohasset. The arrested individual hurt the deputy’s shoulder while resisting handcuffs before entering the squad car.

Tuesday, Jan. 21

Tobacco:

At 9:32 a.m., an officer was advised that two students were suspected of vaping in a bathroom at Grand Rapids High School in Grand Rapids. The students admitted to skipping class and denied vaping. A search of their backpacks produced vape liquid and an unopened pack of cigarettes. Both students received school discipline and given citations for possession of tobacco products.

Hit and run:

At 11:21 a.m., an officer was dispatched to SW Seventh Street in Grand Rapids for a report of a hit and run. A vehicle was parked on the street for several days and sustained damage to the driver side rear wheel well area. Black paint was transferred on the damaged vehicle. Case is under investigation.

Domestic:

At 4:55 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Itasca Street in Grand Rapids in response to a report of a domestic argument. Male party had made a comment about jumping off a bridge. When first responders attempted to evaluate the male party, he became uncooperative.

Theft:

At 5:40 p.m., an officer responded to a report of theft at a store on 29th Street in Grand Rapids. Video shows a couple with their children pacing packages and items in a tote in a shopping cart and pushing the cart out to a car without paying for the items.

Theft:

At 11:01 p.m., dispatch received a call that a vehicle parked at the IRA Civic Center in Grand Rapids was robbed. Items taken included a school backpack, iPad, sunglasses, and bluetooth device.

Wednesday, Jan. 22

Accident:

At 1:48 a.m., an officer assisted the Minnesota State Patrol with a vehicle versus semi accident on U.S. Highway 2 near Warba. No injuries were reported.

Stop arm violation:

At 8:52 a.m., an officer was dispatched to SE Seventh Avenue in Grand Rapids for a school bus stop arm violation. The bus driver reported a white Buick with a female driver was southbound on Seventh Avenue and ran the stop arm with children on the ground.

Robbery:

At 1:51 p.m., an investigator took a report of an alleged armed robbery that allegedly occurred outside a restaurant on NE Third Street in Grand Rapids. Officers took a statement from the reporting party and case was cleared.

Domestic:

At 1:52 p.m., an officer responded to a domestic disturbance on River Road in Grand Rapids. Disturbance was verbal.

Theft:

At 9:33 p.m., an officer responded to a store on SE 29th Street in Grand Rapids for an uncooperative female shoplifter who was seen placing numerous items within her jacket and attempting to exit the store without paying for the items.

Threats:

At 7:39 p.m., deputies received a report of threats made to an employee of a local business on Scenic Highway in Bigfork. A suspect was located and arrested for Threats of Violence and Driving Cancelled IPS.

Traffic:

At 9: 04 p.m., deputies initiated a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 2 and County Road 39 in Deer River that led to the arrest of two individuals.

Thursday, Jan. 23

Theft:

At 1:39 a.m., officers took a call from a store on SE 29th Street in Grand Rapids that an adult male and female who were in the store last week attempting to push a full shopping cart of merchandise out of the store were currently back at the store and attempting to do the same. It was later determined that the male party had an active Itasca County warrant.

Fire - Haz/Mat:

At 8:02 a.m., an officer responded to a veterinary clinic on U.S. Highway 169 in Grand Rapids for a report of a gas leak in the building. The building was cleared of people and the Grand Rapids Fire Department arrived on scene.

Stop arm violation:

At 8:03 a.m., an officer responded to a report of a school bus stop arm violation on NW 14th Street in Grand Rapids. Bus driver reported that a gold Ford Expedition with an older male driver passed through the stop arm and did not attempt to stop. Driver was contacted and admitted to failing to stop. Driver was issued a citation.

Domestic:

At 9:17 a.m., an officer responded to an apartment on NW 14th Street in Grand Rapids. Both male and female party were uncooperative and had left two small children alone in the apartment while they were outside smoking.

Scam:

At 3:42 p.m., an officer responded to a report of a scam call. Reporting party said she received a voicemail saying the FBI was investigating a social security scam and to call a number. Reporting party called the number and was told she was talking to an individual named Sam Wilson from the El Paso Texas Police Department. Reporting party did not give out any personal information.

Hit and run:

At 3:49 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a hit and run at a parking lot at a store on NW Fourth Street in Grand Rapids. Reporting party said when she returned to her vehicle she observed damage to the rear driver side quarter panel. Case is under investigation.

Accident:

At 8:53 p.m., an officer responded to the intersection of NE Third Avenue and East Fifth Street in Grand Rapids for a report of a two-vehicle crash. A mini van skid through the intersection colliding with an SUV. No injuries were reported.

Motor vehicle in the ditch:

At 9:14 p.m., an officer was traveling on Golf Course Road in Grand Rapids and observed a vehicle in the snowbank. Driver was found to be heavily intoxicated and arrested for Driving Under the Influence.

Friday, Jan. 24

Accident:

At 8 a.m., an officer was dispatched to NW First Avenue and Second Street in Grand Rapids for a motor vehicle accident. Damage to the vehicles was minimal and no injuries were reported.

Stop arm violation:

At 9:12 a.m., an officer took a report of a school bus stop arm violation that occurred on SW Seventh Avenue in Grand Rapids. The female suspect was described as driving a gray Ford Explorer.

Fraud:

At 9:47 a.m., officers received a call reporting fraud charges on a credit card. Charges were for a Menards in Golden Valley, Minn., and a NAPA store in Melrose, Minn. Card was cancelled.

Accident:

At 11:37 a.m., a report was taken of a delayed crash which occurred on NW 14th Avenue in Grand Rapids. Damage to vehicles was minimal and no injuries were reported.

Theft:

At 5:55 p.m., an officer responded to a report of theft at a church on U.S. Highway 169 in Grand Rapids. Reporting party showed video footage of a man stealing money from a locked room. The suspect was confronted and admitted to the theft.

Lost dog:

At 7:26 p.m., an officer assisted in apprehending a runaway Korgi named Kevin enjoying recreation time at the Murphy School playground in Grand Rapids.
