The Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin and Grand Rapids track and field teams competed at the State Tournament in St. Michael-Albertville over the weekend, with players from both schools coming home with gold. Taevon Wells of the Titans placed first in the final round of the Class A 400 Meter Dash with a time of 48.60 seconds, beating his preliminary time of 49.68. In the 4x200 Meter Relay, GNK’s Wells, Bodie Jorgenson, Justice Rebrovich, and Gaige Waldvogel placed seventh. Wells, Jorgenson, Daniel Olson, and Benjamin Plackner participated in the 4x400 Meter Relay and also placed seventh. For the 4x800 Meter Relay, Olson, Plackner, Casey Flett, and Connor Thoennes took sixth. As a team, Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin placed 10th out of 65 teams. As seen in our Sunday edition, Grand Rapid’s Jackson (J.D.) Weston won the Class AA shot put state championship with a throw of 58-feet, 2-inches. He also placed 12th in the Discus Throw competition. Austin Hanson placed fifth in the AA 400 Meter Dash, with a time of 49.70 seconds. The Thunderhawks placed 18th out of 62 teams with a total of 21 points.
