Grand Rapids High School held its 120th annual commencement on Friday, May 31, at 7 p.m., at the IRA Civic Center in Grand Rapids. It was standing room only as the Class of 2019, friends, family and school faculty filled the arena. The Grand Rapids High School Band, directed by Dale Gunderson, performed “Fanfare and Processional,” to escort the students into their seats. Grand Rapids A Cappella Choir directed by Scott Shrimpton sang “Sinner Man.” Student speakers were Andrew Fox, with a speech titled “How You Play the Cards,” and Gus Boedigheimer who speech was titled “Average.” Presentation of diplomas was made by ISD 318 School Board members Malissa Bahr and Molly Miskovich.
Bigfork School held its commencement ceremony on Saturday, June 1, at 2 p.m., at the Jerry Gymnasium at Bigfork School. A total of 16 students graduated with the Bigfork Class of 2019. Valedictorian was Ka Tower, Salutatorian was Jenna Meyer. Class motto: “If at first you don’t succeed, then you’re not us.”
