I volunteer at the Salvation Army in Grand Rapids. This morning when I arrived, I was greeted with a parking lot of dumped furniture. The furniture appears to have been pushed off the back of a truck. The chest of drawers, table, and entertainment center are all smashed and the love seat and chair soaked with the rain/snow.
This will all have to be disposed of at considerable cost of disposal fees as well as manpower.
There is a gate with a sign and when that sign says CLOSED, donations are not accepted. No one has a right to drive around the fence to drop off or dump their goods.
I have witnessed all the good the Salvation Army does in this community. When events like this happen, it takes away resources from their mission.
