Tenth anniversary of Angel of Hope Park

Grand Rapids Angel of Hope committee members include, from left, Vickie Wilcox, Jessica Miskovich and Bobbie Harrington. They are hosting a memorial service and vigil at the park, located on the Mississippi Riverbank off River Road in Grand Rapids on Friday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m. All are invited to attend.

Ten years have passed since the City of Grand Rapids and so many generous citizens helped to raise money to create the Angel of Hope Park on the Mississippi River. There are more than 100 Angel of Hope parks nationwide. These were created for families who have had children die; to remember them in a local park. Richard Paul Evans authored the book, “The Christmas Box” which inspired the first Angel Park to be created in Salt Lake City, Utah. Now, many cities hold a candlelight vigil on Dec. 6.

Vickie Rassmussen-Wilcox and Bobbie Harrington are the co-leaders of the Grand Rapids Angel Park Committee. They recently welcomed Jessica Miskovich to the committee. On Friday, Dec. 6, the committee is hosting a vigil at the park located on River Road across from the former hospital at 7 p.m. A role call of names will be read. The memorial service will be followed by refreshments at River Grand Senior Living (great room) on River Road. For more information, call Bobbie at 218-259-0008. The Grand Rapids Area Community Foundation handles pavers, donations and funding; for more information about that, call the foundation at 218-999-9100.
