The FIRST LEGO League Team from St. Joseph's School in Grand Rapids took first place in their division at the Northome tournament on Dec. 8. Twenty-two teams participated in the tournament. The team will move on to the next level of competition to take place in St. Paul on Jan. 20.
The students competed in the areas of Robot Design and Coding, Presentation, Core Values, and Performance. The team is comprised of sixth grade students Emma Baker, Sam Dick, Logan Hoffman, Evan Linnell, Andy Marcotte, Lucy Pierce and Jack Sonder. Coaches are Nicole Baker and Kate Sonder.
FIRST LEGO League is a STEM-based competition that challenges students to think like scientists and engineers to solve a real-world problem using technology and building materials from LEGO Mindstorms kits. Through this team experience, teams operate under the FIRST signature set of Core Values: Discovery, innovation, inclusion, teamwork and gracious professionalism.
