Members of SEIU Healthcare Minnesota at Essentia Health – Deer River overwhelmingly ratified their new contract in voting that ended Friday Jan. 10. The tentative agreement was reached just before the new year after union members voted to authorize a two-day Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) strike that would have happened Jan. 2 and 3. Gains in the new contract include wage increases for all workers, up to 9 percent over two years for some classifications, lower health care premiums and increase pay for on-call work.
Chuck Davis, a member of SEIU Healthcare Minnesota on the bargaining team who has worked in maintenance at Essentia Deer River for five years, shared his feelings on the process that led to the new contract.
"I am very proud of the members of SEIU at Essentia Health in Deer River. We stood together for what was right. We overwhelmingly ratified the new two-year contract and are looking forward to continuing to work for better wages for everyone that works here."
