A pedestrian was killed Tuesday, Feb. 4, on Highway 46 in Alvwood Township, Itasca County, when he was struck by a passing vehicle just after 9 p.m.
According to a report by the Minnesota State Patrol, Tommy John Schultz, 45, of Squaw Lake, was standing near a southbound vehicle that was stalled in the traffic lane when a GMC Sierra driven by Samuel Vernon Krueger, 30, of Max hit him. It was determined that alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
Schultz suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The State Patrol was assisted by the Itasca County Sheriff’s Office, Meds-1 Ambulance, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Northome Fire and Squaw Lake Fire.
