The City of Nashwauk submitted an online grant application during the Community Foundation’s Annual Grant Cycle requesting a grant to help provide safety vests for the Fire Department.
“The Foundation’s Annual Grant Cycle,” said Sarah Copeland, Director of Grants and Programs, “is the perfect example of our tagline ‘…joining charitable intentions with community needs’. We look over the submitted grant applications and match the request with the interests and intent of our current funds. This was the perfect request for a small grant with a big impact, and we knew the Nashwauk Area Community Fund Advisory Committee would be pleased to see the application.”
The Nashwauk Area Community Fund Advisory Committee consists of local citizens who live in and care about the well-being of the entire Nashwauk Area. Including Nashwauk, Keewatin, Nashwauk Township, Buck Lake, Pengilly and Goodland, the entire Nashwauk Area is represented by the members of the Fund Advisory Committee.
Nashwauk Fire Department
The mission of the Nashwauk Fire Department is serving the community and the surrounding communities by protecting and helping those in need. One of the top goals is for all firefighters is to go home safe, each and every time they go out on an emergency call.
Safety Vests for Nashwauk Fire Department
The safety vests will outfit 30 firefighters with their own personal safety vest. At the time of the grant application last fall, the department had safety vests, but they were degraded and were not enough to equip all firefighters. With the recent number of emergency calls on the highways and not enough safety vests for all staff, this was an imminent need.
“The request was for a fairly small amount,” said Copeland. “They were asking for $945 to provide a safety vest for each firefighter. Think about the impact that has on the entire Fire Department, and the entire Nashwauk Area. It was great that the Nashwauk Area Community Fund Advisory Committee decided to fully fund the request for a grant for safety vests.”
The Nashwauk Area Community Fund is part of an ongoing Community Giving to Community Campaign to grow our area’s community funds. Initiated in 2017, this fundraising campaign seeks to match a $200,000 challenge grant provided by the Blandin Foundation. With this match, every donation you make to the Nashwauk Area Community Fund is doubled until the match is complete. Now is the time to be a part of this special opportunity to support your community. We’re almost there!
The purchase of safety vests for the Nashwauk fire Department is a great example of Community Giving to Community. The Nashwauk Area Community Fund made this possible. When you give to the Nashwauk Area Community Fund, you:
• equip your local Fire Department
• provide books for the Keewatin Library
• support kids in the Spartan After School Program
• and much more!
