The Grand Rapids High School Marching show this year is “Way Out West.” The band is considered Class AA with 142 students in band which includes the drumline, and 31 in the colorguard.

Sept. 7 Competitions:

Eden Prairie: Best Colorguard, Best Drum Majors, second place overall

Eastview: Best Colorguard, Best Drum Majors, second place overall

Sept. 14 Competitions:

Farmington: Best Colorguard, Best Drum Majors, Best Winds, Best Drumline, first place overall

Rosemount: Best Drum Majors, first place overall

Saturday, Sept. 28, the band is heading to Cedar Falls, Iowa for Bands of America (BOA) competition at the University of Northern Iowa to compete against 20+ marching bands. GRHS has not been to BOA since 2000.

The season will end by competing Oct. 5 and 6 in River Falls, Wis. and Chippewa Falls, Wis.

Grand Rapids has the only competitive marching band north of the Twin Cities. Directors are Dale Gunderson and Sander Grothjohn. Guard Instructors are Paola Cortes, Jane McCartney, and Randy Knight.
