Snow guns were fired up this week on Mount Itasca ski trails. Volunteers are manning the six blizzard blowers around the clock with the perfect cold weather conditions. Snowmaking will continue throughout the month with the expectation that Alpine and tubing operations will open by Sat. Nov. 30 of Thanksgiving weekend. Season passes will be on sale Black Friday, Nov. 29.
Registration for Mount Itasca Youth Ski League is now open www.mysl.org. Equipment rental for registered youth ages 5 to 15 years and parents will be Thurs. Dec. 5 from 4 to 7 pm at Mount Itasca chalet.
Northern Lights Nordic Ski club urges everyone to wear orange when hiking their favorite trails to clear debris and deadfalls. As soon as enough natural snow falls, the volunteers will pack and groom the trails.
NLNSC ski swap will be Tues. Dec. 3 at Central Square Mall from 4 to 7 pm. Cross-country ski gear may be dropped off to sell or donate on Monday from 4 to 7 pm or Tuesday morning from 10 to 4 pm.
Grand Rapids Nordic Ski team begins practice on Monday Nov. 11 with a parents’ meeting at the Grand Rapids High School Cafeteria on Thursday Nov. 14 at 5 p.m.
