Friends of the Grand Rapids Area Library will be hosting the second annual Holiday Book Boutique on Saturday, Nov. 9, and are seeking donated books for the sale. Scheduled to coincide with the opening of rifle deer-hunting season and community arts and crafts sales, the Boutique sale will run from 8:30 AM to 2 PM at the library. There will be a large selection of gently-used books, puzzles and games. Featured displays include holiday books, cookbooks, and children’s books. There will also be a bake sale. Apple cider and cookies will be served and guests may register for a gift basket.
Donations of books may be dropped off at the library book store on a regular basis, but this would be a wonderful time to share the holiday books you’re through with, the cookbooks or craft books you no longer use, or the books, puzzles, and games your children have outgrown. Fall cleaning may reveal hidden treasures you’d like to pass on. Community members with a passion for the library may also donate baked goods for the sale. Folks interested in volunteering for the sale should call Judy Peterson at 218-398-0849.
Friends of the Grand Rapids Area Library is a group dedicated to the support of the library and its programs. Membership information will be available at the boutique. Two FOL board members have been named Itasca County Outstanding Volunteer, Judy Peterson in 2018 and Susan Hayes in 2019.
FOL has been named a finalist for the Eve Nordley Prize, given annually by the Minnesota Association of Library Friends. The award is given for an innovative project of library support. The Grand Rapids proposal was its Pop-Up Book Sales, the Holiday Boutique in 2018 and the Spring Sale at Central School in 2019. The sales offered reduced-price books to the community while increasing awareness of library resources. Questions about FOL or the boutique may be directed to Mary Jo Wimmer at 218-326-0760.
