Football (1-3): For the score from this week’s game against Kelliher/Northome, see page 1B. The previous week, the Hornets couldn’t keep their momentum going after Head Coach Chad Lathrop’s first career win in week three. The team fell to Onamia (4-0) 42-12.
Volleyball (11-1-0): The team faced Nashwauk-Keewatin and Deer River this week, both road games. And the Hornets continued their roll.
They swept Nashwauk-Keewatin 3-0 (25-7, 25-12, 25-18) on Tuesday night, improving their record to 11-0 on the season.
On Thursday night, the streak finally ended for the Hornets. On the road at Deer River, they fell to the Warriors 3-2 in a tight match, giving them their first loss of the season.
The Hornets took game one easily, 25-15. But Deer River struck back winning set two decisively, 25-14, and then eking out a game three win 25-22. But the Hornets didn’t go easily, taking game four 23-25. Set five proved to be appropriately close, but Hill City couldn’t fight its way on top. The Warriors took the set 15-13, and with it the match victory.
