Gerald “Jerry” J. Sullivan, age 88, of Grand Rapids, MN died Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Grand Itasca Hospital.

Jerry was born in rural Anoka County to Joseph and Gladys Sullivan in 1924. He was married to Ramona Johnson in Mora, MN on May 23, 1953. Jerry was a WWII Veteran. Following graduation from High School in 1942, he completed flight training in the Army Air Corps and served as a Lieutenant and B-25 pilot until discharged in October 1945. He was a graduate of the University of Minnesota College of Natural Resources in 1949 and Graduate Studies in 1955-56. He was employed by the U.S. Forest Service and the Natural Resources Conservation Service for 18 years and for the University of Minnesota Extension Service for 13 years. He retired as Professor Emeritus at the University’s Research and Outreach Station in Grand Rapids in 1980. Jerry was a registered Land Surveyor and served as Itasca County Surveyor from 1980 to 1986. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, American Legion, and a number of professional organizations. Jerry was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and golf. He especially enjoyed spending time with the boys at their hunting cabin in Balsam, annual fishing trips up to Canada and hunting trips out west.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; and three brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Ramona; two sons, Joel Sullivan of Deer River, MN and Mark (Barbara) Sullivan of Ft. Peck, MT; two granddaughters, Betsy and Holly; and a sister, Lyla Jackson.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 13th for one hour until the 11 a.m. Memorial Service at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids. Rev. Paul Leslie will officiate. Military Honors provided by local area veterans. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Mora, MN.
