The Mississippi Melodie Showboat, fondly referred to The Ol’ Girl by cast members was removed from the water last weekend. It took on water this July when seams on the steel floats gave way, causing it to take on water. Despite the damage on the 47-year-old boat, not one of this summer’s performances was cancelled. However, cast members were unable to take the traditional ride to the Showboat landing at the start of each show. The boat still served as the background, docked next to the stage. To help raise funds to fix the boat, a chili feed fundraiser is planned for Sunday, Oct. 21, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Eagle’s Club in Grand Rapids.
