A Sunday night fire has claimed the life of a small child and sent three others to the hospital for treatment.
According to Itasca County Sheriff Vic Williams, the Grand Rapids and Cohasset fire departments, along with Nashwauk Ambulance, Meds-1 Ambulance, the Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota State Fire Marshall and the Itasca County Sheriff’s Office responded at 9:25 p.m. to a 911 call reporting a residential structure fire at 20257 Wendigo Road in Harris Township, just south of Grand Rapids.
The person who made the 911 call said the trailer home was totally engulfed in flames and that a small child was still in the residence, Williams said.
Firefighters recovered the remains of a small child inside the residence, Williams said. Two adults, Glen Michael Campbell, 38, and Nichole Ann Julien, 24, along with another child were taken to Grand Itasca Medical Center for treatment of smoke inhalation and injuries related to the fire.
“The loss of a child is always tragic,” said Williams.
A cause for the fire has not been released. The name of the child is being withheld pending notification of the family.
