A StandDown court will be part of this year’s second annual Grand Rapids Veterans StandDown scheduled from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27 at the Grand Rapids Armory on 930 First Avenue Northeast in Grand Rapids.
The court will address misdemeanors, petty misdemeanors, tickets, and non-felony warrant-surrenders. Free civil legal assistance in family law, consumer debt, criminal expungement, housing and elder law will also be available on-site. There is no pre-registration necessary and there will be volunteer defense attorneys to assist veterans with the process. For more details on the court, contact Call Paul Pedersen at (218) 722-8763.
The StandDown is being held by the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV), a nonprofit organization serving veterans statewide All veterans seeking services are welcome. On-site assistance available includes free lunch, clothing, VA benefit information, legal assistance—including a court component, housing and employment assistance and referrals, chemical dependency recovery groups, DMV, haircuts, chaplaincy, public benefits information, and more.
A welcoming ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m.
