Grand Rapids residents have increased the amount of trips they take using active transportation including biking and walking according to a study conducted by Get Fit Itasca and the Statewide Health Improvement Program (SHIP). The counts and surveys were repeated in 2011 following the installation of five informational kiosks, production of hand held maps, a marketing campaign, and an event to promote physical activity in the area and provide youth with bike education. Although the trail counts resulted in lower numbers, there was a 63 percent increase of residents that reported using the trail one or more times throughout the previous year.
