Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union in Grand Rapids was awarded the 2013 Circles of Support Dignity Award. The Dignity Award recognized Affinity Plus for their commitment to providing people in poverty with the opportunity to receive a financial education by teaching classes on various financial topics, and providing attendees with helpful materials. The award was presented to Affinity Plus at a banquet on Thursday, Dec. 5. “We’re so honored and humbled to receive this award,” said Ann Mack, branch manager, Grand Rapids East. “Thank you to Circles of Support for providing us with the initial opportunity to get involved, and to our employees who did an amazing job of teaching classes that had a positive impact on the lives of people in our community.” Circles of Support is a program facilitated through the Minnesota Community Action Council. The mission of the organization is to engage local community members in efforts to increase the economic stability and vitality of struggling households. Affinity Plus will continue to teach financial education classes to the Circles of Support group in the future. The classes provide attendees with information about budgeting, and understanding credit and predatory lending.
